1. Table Talk Discussion Starters
Use these fun, conversational prompts around the dinner table or on the school run:
- Warm-Up Question: Pass a folded napkin, blanket, or tea towel around the dinner table like a mini camping tent. Ask everyone: “If God pitched a real camping tent right in our living room today, what is one ordinary thing you would want to chat with Him about or ask Him?”
- Big Thought: In the service, Simon talked about how God told the Israelites to build a tent right in the middle of their camp so He could live close to them—and how Jesus “pitched His tent” in our world. Why do you think God wants to be close to us instead of staying high up on a mountain?
- Grace Talk: Have you ever made a mistake and felt like hiding or getting away so you wouldn’t get in trouble? How does it feel to know that God’s love is bigger than any mistake we could ever make?
2. Creative Family Activity: The Paper Tent Reminder
What You Need:
- A simple piece of A4 paper (or card) folded in half like a tent card.
- Markers, pens, or colored pencils.
How To Do It:
- The Outside (God’s Promises): On the outside flaps of your paper tent, write in big, bold, colourful letters:👉 “GOD WANTS TO BE CLOSE TO ME” and on the other side “GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN ANY MISTAKE”
- The Inside (Our Friends & Community): Open up the tent. On the inside base/flaps, write or draw the names of 2–3 friends, neighbors, schoolmates, or church family members from a different generation.
- Place & Pray: Set your paper tent in a prominent spot in your home (e.g., on the kitchen table, mantlepiece, or bedside table). Each morning or at bedtime, say a short 1-sentence prayer together for the people listed inside your tent: “Thank You, Lord, that You are close to us. Bless [Name] today and help them feel Your closeness too. Amen.”
- Place and say sorry: Turn your tent round and say sorry to God knowing his love will forgive you from any mistake
