Our Story

Cosham Baptist has a history that goes back to 1871 when a group of inspiring people decided to meet for worship in a pub on this site. Since then we have taken over another pub and now look forward to what God is doing amongst His church and His people in this community. We invite you to be a part of the ongoing story.

About Us

Values & Vision

We are rooted in Jesus and we seek to know Him more in our communal worship, church community, and daily lives. He guides us and gives us our purpose and passion.

If you would like to know more about our faith and what we believe, please click here for a great site.

As a church, we have agreed these 5 values that we are currently looking to establish in greater depth.

Welcome

We desire each person to be welcomed from the very first meeting to when they are fully engaged and then beyond that too – it never stops!

Whole-life discipleship

We know that being rooted in Jesus means He will make a difference to every area and in every minute of our lives – this is whole-life discipleship.

Go Out

Jesus tells His followers to go out into all the world with the good news. We want to do that creatively and effectively in all areas of this community and beyond.

Intergenerational

Our hope is for the church to not just be a community that includes different generations but a place where different ages and generations serve and encourage each other. They play, worship and learn together.

United

We will not back down from being united in every area of Church life.

About Us

Mission Partners

We are delighted to be a part of God’s worldwide church.

These Mission Partners detail where we focus our prayers, support and financial giving.

Over the years we have undertaken many trips to visit these missions and we regularly have speakers from representatives of each partner

Please take a look at the Mission Partner blog posts to read their latest news.

Harvest India

Harvest India goes above and beyond charity to show compassion that creates belonging.

At it’s core, they’re driven by a conviction that all people deserve to be embraced as family.

Because more than charity, family catalyses change.

They give everything to welcome the poor and the outcast into a real sense of community. They listen to their stories, hear about their needs, and offer support that helps them rise out of poverty.

Hope Into Action

Hope into Action Portsmouth opened its first house in the city in 2019, and have been growing ever since!

They provide houses with support for people who are homeless for a variety of reasons, including people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, survivors of domestic abuse, people who’ve been in prison, and refugees.

They work in partnership with Cosham Baptist and a variety of Christian churches in the Portsmouth area to provide housing with support to help some of the most vulnerable people in the city rebuild their lives.

Eagles Malawi Project

Transforming our present. Defining Malawi’s future.

Why Church & Community Mobilisation?

CCM is 26 times more cost-effective than traditional development and 4 times more sustainable. It works through lasting local structures like churches, empowers communities and gets government involved.

CCM training has equipped hundreds of communities to bring radical improvement to their lives.

Teliu Baptist Church

Situated in the heart of Romania 20km east of Brasov, our partner church has a great ministry in the village.

We have done a number of mission trips to support the Church’s ministry and also a joint mission to Ukraine in 2018.

The village is mainly orthodox, but the Church has shown great witness in its generous welcome to Ukranians.

Tim & Hannah

Tim and Hannah Flatman, with Rita and Moses, serve at Betel Brasileiro church in Custódia, Pernambuco. They lead a church plant in a rural quilombola community: a predominantly Afro-Brazilian community formed in resistance to slavery and racist oppression. They also work with the Ngok Dinka in Abyei, South Sudan, teaching, preaching, offering practical assistance, and advocating for peace and rights. Tim serves as the Brazil Team Leader and Hannah as Short Term Coordinator.

Marie

We support Marie – one of our Church members who works with ReachAcross.

ReachAcross works within some of the 10,000 people groups in the world today who are as yet to hear and receive the gospel.  Over 4000 of these are Muslim, largely located across north Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

Tearfund

Tearfund is a Christian charity that partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. It tackles poverty through sustainable development, responding to disasters, and challenging injustice. They believe an end to extreme poverty is possible.

Thousands of people needlessly suffer and die every day because of poverty. But that’s not God’s plan for the world. And God is calling all of us to reach out to people in greatest need..

Home Mission

Home Mission is all about helping Baptist churches and individuals to reach their mission potential and bring the love of God to their communities.

It is the Baptist family purse, and each year we give to Home Mission as a Church
