Men’s Discussion Starters

Theme: Stepping Out of Passivity & Choosing Courage (Acts 2 / 1 Cor 3)

  1. Where do you feel the drag? In his sermon, Paul talked about how easy it is for men to settle into a “grey,” passive, or resigned way of living. In what area of your life (work, family, health, or personal faith) do you feel most tempted to just accept the status quo?
  2. Upgrading vs. Transforming: Paul said: “Being a believer is not a new life added on to an old life… It is NEW LIFE.” Where are you tempted to treat faith as just a “moral upgrade” to your schedule rather than a completely new life in the Spirit?
  3. Loosening Tongues: The image above speaks about the Spirit coming to “loosen the tongues of these fearful men and women.” Is there a situation at work, home, or among friends where fear or awkwardness has kept you tongue-tied about your faith?
  4. Pruning in the Furnace: Paul mentioned that the Holy Spirit often does His deepest work in life’s harder “crucible” seasons. Looking back, how has a difficult or high-pressure season shaped your character or drawn you closer to God?
  5. Courage over Fear: Peter went from denying Jesus out of fear to standing up boldly at Pentecost. What is one practical area where you need to choose courage over fear this coming week?
  6. Risk over Resignation: What is one “safe” area where God might be asking you to take a holy risk (e.g., serving, forgiving someone, sharing the gospel, or stepping into leadership) instead of remaining resigned?

Women’s Discussion Starters

Theme: Receiving Warmth, Freedom, and Purpose (Acts 2 / 1 Cor 3)

  1. Identifying Lukewarmness: Paul noted that God prefers His church to be “hot, very hot,” yet daily fatigue and pressures often leave us feeling lukewarm or running on empty. What daily habits or burdens tend to drain your spiritual warmth the most?
  2. From Stone to Flesh: Reflecting on C.S. Lewis’s metaphor of Aslan breathing on frozen statues, where in your heart or life do you need the Holy Spirit to bring fresh warmth, breath, and movement right now?
  3. God’s Temple in Everyday Life: 1 Corinthians 3:16 reminds us that we are God’s temple and His Spirit lives in us. How does knowing that God’s presence goes with you into your ordinary routines (chores, work, family care) change how you view your day?
  4. Liberated to Speak: Look at the quote in the image above: “So that once they were tongue-tied, now as the Spirit of God comes, they are liberated.” What fears or insecurities usually hold you back from speaking encouragement, truth, or faith into other people’s lives?
  5. Life over Death: What does choosing “life over death” look like practically in your thought patterns, self-talk, or relationships this week?
  6. Changing the World: Paul reminded us: “The early church filled with the Spirit, chose courage over fear, and they changed the world. We can do something very similar.” What is one small, courage-filled action you can take this week to impact your home, workplace, or local community?
