5-Day Devotional: Drawing Near to Our Holy God

Day 1: Carried on Eagle’s Wings

Reading: Exodus 19:1-6; Deuteronomy 32:9-12

Devotional: God reminds Israel—and us—that He carried them on eagle’s wings. Picture a mother eagle swooping beneath her struggling eaglet, lifting it to safety when predators threaten. This is how God rescues us from our Egypt, our bondage. You may feel exposed, vulnerable, struggling against the winds of life. But God declares: “You are mine.” He doesn’t demand repayment for your rescue; He simply values you. Whatever trust issues you carry from past abuse or trauma, know this: God promises to love you back to strength. He is your defender, your protector, your carrier. You don’t have to fly alone. Let Him lift you today with His unfailing love.

Day 2: His Treasured Possession

Reading: Exodus 19:5-6; 1 Peter 2:9-10; Malachi 3:16-17

Devotional: Among all the wealth of creation, God calls you His “segula”—His treasured possession, His special treasure. Like a monarch who values a grandmother’s necklace above all riches, or a parent scanning the playground for their beloved child, God looks at you with delight. You are not defined by your slavery to anxiety, past failures, or present struggles. You are defined by how God sees you: precious, valued, chosen. This isn’t based on your performance but on His commitment to you. Today, when you feel ordinary or overlooked, remember whose you are. You belong to the King of kings, and He treasures you beyond measure.

Day 3: A Kingdom of Priests

Reading: Exodus 19:6; 1 Peter 2:4-5, 9; Revelation 1:5-6

Devotional: God calls us to be “a kingdom of priests”—angled mirrors reflecting His glory to the world. Through Christ, we have bold access to enter God’s presence, not standing at a distance but invited into the Holy of Holies. This privilege comes with purpose: to show others the goodness of God who called us from darkness into light. As living stones in God’s spiritual temple, we offer spiritual sacrifices that please Him. Consider today: How are you reflecting God’s presence to those around you? Are you showing His love, mercy, and truth? The freedom you enjoy in Christ is meant to set others free. Be the priest God has called you to be.

Day 4: Preparing to Meet God

Reading: Exodus 19:10-15; Hebrews 10:19-25; James 4:8

Devotional: The Israelites were commanded to consecrate themselves, wash their clothes, and prepare for three days before meeting God. The question confronts us: Do we still prepare ourselves to worship? Do we examine our hearts, make things right with others, ready our minds before entering God’s presence? While Jesus has opened the way for us to draw near, we must never become casual about approaching our holy God. Like villagers preparing for Queen Victoria’s visit, attending to every detail with reverence, we should approach worship with intentional preparation. This week, before you worship, take time to fast, pray, confess, and align your heart. God welcomes you warmly, but He remains holy.

Day 5: Holy Fear and Awe

Reading: Exodus 19:16-25; Hebrews 12:18-29

Devotional: We serve a God who is both intimately loving and awesomely holy—a devouring fire. The God ablaze on Sinai is the same God who rescues us like an eagle. We must hold both truths: He invites us into relationship AND calls us to reverence. Genuine worship balances intimacy with awe, love with holy fear. We are not God’s equals, though we are His children. “I am” and “I am not”—knowing both truths keeps us grounded. Since we’re receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us worship with gratitude, holy fear, and awe. Don’t refuse to listen to the One speaking from heaven. Approach Him today recognizing His unequaled power and inexhaustible love. Offer yourself—His treasured possession—back to Him in holy dedication.
