Day 1: The Centrality of God Reading: Genesis 1:1-5, Psalm 8 Devotional: As we begin this journey, let’s reflect on the opening words of Scripture: “In the beginning, God.” These powerful words remind us that God is the source and center of everything. Like the Copernican Revolution changed our understanding of the solar system, we need a spiritual revolution to put God back at the center of our lives. Today, consider: What or who is at the center of your life? How might your perspective shift if you truly placed God at the center? Spend time in awe of God’s creation, as described in Psalm 8, and remember that the same God who created the vast universe cares deeply for you.
Day 2: The Extravagant Artist Reading: Psalm 139:13-18, Colossians 1:15-20 Devotional: Our God is a prolific artist, creating with boundless creativity and generosity. From the intricate design of a snowflake to the complexity of the human heart, God’s artistry surrounds us. Today’s reading reminds us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Reflect on the ways God has uniquely crafted you. What talents, passions, or characteristics has He given you? How can you use these to glorify Him? Remember, as John Ortberg said, “The entire sum of creation, each private and individual act of nature is God waving hello.” Look for God’s “hellos” in your life today and respond with gratitude.
Day 3: Divine Wisdom in a Chaotic World Reading: Proverbs 3:13-26, James 1:5-8 Devotional: In a world often marked by chaos and confusion, God offers us His divine wisdom. The Proverbs remind us that wisdom is more precious than material wealth. As we navigate life’s challenges, we’re invited to seek God’s wisdom rather than relying solely on our own understanding. Reflect on areas in your life where you need God’s guidance. How can you actively seek His wisdom in these situations? Remember, as the sermon noted, “There is a way to live in the world that avoids a lot of pain and regret. It’s called wisdom.” Commit to pursuing God’s wisdom today, trusting that His ways are higher than our own.
Day 4: The God Who Reaches Out Reading: Luke 15:11-32, Romans 5:6-11 Devotional: Today’s readings paint a powerful picture of God’s initiative in reaching out to us. Like the father in the prodigal son parable, God eagerly awaits our return, ready to embrace us with open arms. The image from the Sistine Chapel of God reaching out to a casual Adam reminds us that God’s desire for relationship with us far exceeds our own efforts. Reflect on times when you’ve felt distant from God. How has He pursued you even in those moments? Remember John Ortberg’s words: “The story of the Bible is not primarily about the desire of people to be with God. It’s the desire of God to be with people.” How does this change your perspective on your relationship with God?
Day 5: Loved Beyond Measure Reading: John 3:16-17, 1 John 4:7-12 Devotional: As we conclude this week’s devotions, let’s focus on the profound love of God. The sermon’s illustration of the father eagerly sharing pictures of his son reflects God’s delight in us. You are the “child on God’s screen saver,” cherished and celebrated in every detail of your life. Meditate on the depth of God’s love for you. How does knowing you are so deeply loved change how you view yourself and others? Consider ways you can reflect this divine love to those around you today. Remember, as the sermon concluded, God is “rushing through the clouds to be at home with you. One day apart is one day too many.” Rest in the assurance of His constant presence and unending love.
