The art of judgement – 5 day devotional

Day 1: Judging with Humility
Reading: Matthew 7:1-5
Devotional
: As we begin this journey, let’s reflect on Jesus’ words about judgment. It’s easy to point out flaws in others, but how often do we examine our own hearts? Today, ask God to reveal any “planks” in your own eye. Consider how you might approach others with more grace and less criticism. Remember, we are all sinners saved by grace. How can you extend that same grace to those around you today?

Day 2: The Power of Discernment
Reading: Proverbs 2:1-5
Devotional
: Yesterday, we learned about avoiding harsh judgment. Today, we focus on developing godly discernment. Wisdom and discernment are gifts from God, helping us navigate complex situations with grace. As you read Proverbs, consider areas in your life where you need more wisdom. How can you seek God’s guidance in making decisions? Pray for the Holy Spirit to sharpen your discernment, allowing you to see situations as God sees them.

Day 3: Love in Action
Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Devotional
: At the heart of Jesus’ teaching is love. When we truly love others, we’re less likely to judge harshly. Paul’s description of love in 1 Corinthians challenges us to examine our interactions. Are we patient and kind, even with those who frustrate us? Do we keep no record of wrongs? Today, choose one aspect of love from this passage and intentionally practice it, especially with someone you find difficult to love.

Day 4: The Heart of Forgiveness
Reading: Matthew 18:21-35
Devotional
: Jesus’ parable of the unforgiving servant reminds us of the vast forgiveness we’ve received from God. When we truly grasp this, it becomes easier to forgive others. Reflect on a time when you were forgiven for something significant. How did it feel? Now, consider if there’s someone you need to forgive. Remember, forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting or excusing harmful behavior, but it does mean releasing the burden of judgment to God.

Day 5: Walking in the Light
Reading: 1 John 1:5-10
Devotional
: As we conclude our week, John reminds us that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness. Walking in the light means being honest about our own sins and shortcomings. It’s only when we acknowledge our own need for grace that we can extend it to others. Today, spend time in honest prayer, confessing any areas where you’ve fallen short. Thank God for His forgiveness, and ask for strength to walk in the light, treating others with the same mercy you’ve received.
