Day 1: Treasures in Heaven
Reading: Matthew 6:19-21
Devotional: Jesus teaches us to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. This isn’t about literal wealth, but about where we place our ultimate value and hope. What do you treasure most? Is it something that can rust, be stolen, or fade away? Or is it something eternal? Today, reflect on the things you value most. Are they aligned with God’s kingdom? Consider how you might invest more in eternal treasures – acts of kindness, sharing your faith, or serving others. Remember, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Day 2: The Light Within
Reading: Matthew 6:22-23
Devotional: Jesus uses the metaphor of the eye as the lamp of the body to illustrate our spiritual focus. A “healthy” eye fills us with light, while an “unhealthy” eye leaves us in darkness. This speaks to the importance of maintaining a clear, singular focus on God. What distracts your spiritual vision? Are there areas of your life where you’re allowing darkness to creep in? Today, pray for God to sharpen your spiritual focus. Ask Him to help you see clearly, to recognize distractions, and to keep your eyes fixed on His light.
Day 3: Serving One Master
Reading: Matthew 6:24
Devotional: We cannot serve two masters, Jesus tells us. It’s impossible to be fully devoted to God while also being enslaved to money or material possessions. This doesn’t mean we can’t have wealth, but that wealth shouldn’t have us. Examine your heart today. Are there areas where money, possessions, or worldly status compete with your devotion to God? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any divided loyalties in your life. Recommit to serving God as your one true Master, trusting Him to provide for all your needs.
Day 4: Generosity and Trust
Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Devotional: Generosity is a key theme in Jesus’ teachings about treasures and masters. When we’re generous, we demonstrate trust in God’s provision and break the power of greed in our lives. Today, consider how you can cultivate a more generous spirit. This might involve financial giving, but also giving of your time, talents, or encouragement to others. Remember, God loves a cheerful giver and is able to bless you abundantly. As you give, do so with a heart of gratitude and trust in God’s endless resources.
Day 5: Eternal Perspective
Reading: Colossians 3:1-4
Devotional: Paul echoes Jesus’ teachings when he encourages us to set our minds on things above. Living with an eternal perspective changes how we view our earthly lives. It doesn’t mean we ignore our earthly responsibilities, but that we see them in light of eternity. Today, consider how your daily choices might look different if you were more conscious of eternity. How might you treat others, use your time, or make decisions differently? Ask God to help you live each day with eternity in mind, seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness.
