Holy Spirit hits Holbav

Jason reflection.

And so the kids camp came to an end this afternoon. Where has God been visible?

Other local churches and members coming together to cook meals, giving water, giving time for the project is a picture of the church moving as one even if not perfectly but at least aiming that way. Different denominations trying to learn to focus on what matters. The Kingdom coming.

Sami and Cornelia who just seem relentless in their care and nurturing of these little souls.

Bart, Kenny Matt Simon and myself all doing things we didn’t feel we could and probably couldn’t have our own strength.

These kids who have life tough, singing so loudly and brilliantly. (Kenny’s watch warned him the decibel level was too high).

The difference of day 1 and day 3. Barriers broken, The Holy Spirit alive and kicking and all capped off with people from different countries, different warps of life, different skin tones and colours all singing, laughing and hugging each other as one big unit. A moment of PURITY that only God brings. If you’re a Christian and you haven’t been involved in mission, start praying into it, you just see things differently. I almost bottled getting on the plane to Romania. Thank God (literally) I didn’t listen to the fear.

Today was the last full day of our trip and missionary work to Romania

I have learned big lessons from this experience. The people are always friendly and welcoming. The food 🥘 is beyond amazing. One of the food I will remember is tobacco chicken – any guesses for what this is in UK?

Even though the Language barrier was a bit of a problem the children were well behaved. They showed more respect, care, love and interest with big energy.

It was three days work-shop with the children. Started on day one 29 children, day two 36 and the last day 46 which means God was doing miracles through us.

It was a bit sad that it has ended, but I’m sure Gods timing is the best. It ended with smiles, laughter and friendship with the children and their families.

At one point Jason, Matt and Bart were speaking 3 different language’s (Ghanaian, French and Romanian) all over the Holy Spirit which was a bit funny.

Now I no longer Fear because God is by my side and in my heart, thank you Nyame (Lord)

Well, I would do that kids club again in a heartbeat. The last day was even better; the dry weather allowed more outdoor play and the craft activities went better.

I’m quite tired, and I know that another three days might finish me off, but the warmth I’ve felt from those kids is so special it might have persuaded me to do more, if that were the plan. When we finished this afternoon, I got so many hugs and high fives from them, boys and girls, it makes me tear up a little thinking of it. It’s changed me. I know there is much I will pray for some of them for a while. They did speak a little English and I spoke a very little Romanian, but communication is more than words. One of the things that will stick in my mind is the hearty singing. The other is how much they have given me. I’ll wear my multi-colour wristband that one of the girls gave me for as long as I can!

What an epic finish to an amazing week with some of the best young people I’ve ever met! I’m still unsure whether we impacted them more than they impacted us, I feel like I’ve got a lot to reflect on from this experience.

It was an emotional goodbye this afternoon with lots of hugs, high fives, pictures and thank you’s and, waving to them as we left, I have such a strong desire to return to Romania for further mission in the future. It feels slightly surreal that tomorrow is our last day here but I’m hoping many of the young people will be at Brasov church in the morning!

Simon reflection

The word that has gone through my mind all this week is privilege. And today was no different – simply to be a part of this project in Holbav.

In one sense the Camp has finished, but we have heard that up to 30 including a few parents will come to Brasov in the morning. Our prayer is this will powerfully impact the Church to get involved as this project continues…

Today was great, once again to see the team working together and also to see each member performing at their best in different ways… thanks guys!
