Great to see new children arrive today at camp. And well done to Kenny for identifying nearly all of the kids that were here for the first time. We were all too involved to be able to take many photos today, so here is one from yesterday. Today’s focus was on the theme that Jesus has the desire and power to set us free.
In the morning we sang then creatively presented how Jesus demonstrated his desire and power to three individuals. The children created images on both sides of a person cut-out to demonstrate how God can change someone. Then over to the sports court for games. A rusty pole got in the way of Matt’s head and gave him a bit of a bump!
Lunch today was hot dogs.
The afternoon began again with worship and thinking about how Jesus’ death and resurrection can set us free. We placed paint handprints around an image of the cross amd played more games! We loved putting Jesus right at the centre of today and please pray for all the children who heard the gospel call.
Matt’s reflection
Today’s been another fantastic day! The kids were more confident and engaging and it really feels like we’ve built genuine connections and I’m going to miss each and every one of them when we return home. We had a great time playing games (well until I ran head first into a goal post) and they seemed to enjoy the sketches we did about Jesus setting the leper, the blind man and Zacchaeus free from their respective ‘cages’. I was high fiving each one as they left and they all told me how excited they were for tomorrow.
Kenny’s reflection
Every journey has it ends, tomorrow is our last day with this amazing children. One part of me is sad and the other excited. As I have to come home to see my family.
It’s been a great experience and mind blowing.
The people of Romania are so friendly. The welcome was amazing. Anyone who wanted to do this mission in Romania please go for it. I had a big fear of speaking in front of people by praying to God and reading the Bible made me realise that the devil 👿 is a liars.
I just can’t wait to see them again tomorrow to say my good bye, I believe I will be coming to Romania again by God’s grace. Will miss them in excited way, God bless them all
Jason’s reflection
Today we looked at how Jesus is willing to set people free. Whether it be blind Bartimaeus, the Leper, or Zacchaeus, we wanted to teach the kids it doesn’t matter your size, colour, living style or sins if you’re willing to choose Jesus he will choose you too. Tomorrow we will look at the Holy Spirit.
It has been a difficult day of new emotions. A learning curve to what a mission actually is. A second day of bonding with the little people but in the back of my mind knowing I’ll be heading back to England on Sunday. Standing in a queue of popeyes chicken thinking “I wander what the kids will eat this evening?” Have they eaten this evening? A love for Romania that’s growing but knowing we’re leaving. Feeling like a fraud on the mission. But our job was and is to support Sami and Cornelia in their calling and what a wonderful wonderful job they do against so many hurdles. Kids that couldn’t read or write (some still can’t yet) standing up and reading in front of everyone, a memory for songs and sung beautifully and some more memories that will stay with me. I know I’ll see these kids again without doubt but just sad to leave them in a day or so time. But also privileged to be a little part of their journey. Sami said to us we may be one of dozens or even hundreds who teach the Gospel to them and that’s ok. It’s about patience and giving them the best possible chance in difficult circumstances. Please pray God’s Spirit on the kids of Holbav and the mission here.
Pray boldly for miracles.
Bart’s reflection
Today started with feeling like I may not really engage with the kids. Well, this morning proved me wrong when the kids started to arrive. They were more excited and at ease with us, which was good, but they were a little more difficult to manage at points! I’m going to miss them when we come home. We have one more kids club in Holbav and the possibility of seeing some of them in church on Sunday morning, but the impression they and Sami and his family have left will last I’m sure.
Is there a way we here in CBC can donate to the projects of the church in Romania?
