Unity is what happens when people in church are filled with the Holy Spirit – 5 Day devotional

Day 1: Unity in the Body of Christ
Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

Devotional:
As we read about the body of Christ, we’re reminded that each of us plays a vital role in God’s plan. Just as every part of our physical body is essential, so too is every member of the church. Reflect on your unique gifts and how you contribute to the body of Christ. Are there areas where you’ve felt insignificant? Remember, God has purposefully placed you where you are. Today, seek to encourage someone in your church family, recognizing their importance in God’s design. How can you foster unity and mutual appreciation within your faith community?

Day 2: The Fruit of the Spirit
Reading: Galatians 5:22-26

Devotional:
The fruit of the Spirit is a beautiful depiction of a life transformed by God’s love. As you read through these qualities, consider which ones come naturally to you and which ones you struggle with. Remember, these are not traits we force ourselves to have, but rather the natural outcome of a Spirit-filled life. Today, focus on the fruit of self-control. In what areas of your life do you need more self-control? How might exercising self-control contribute to unity in your relationships and community? Ask God to fill you afresh with His Spirit, allowing His fruit to grow abundantly in your life.

Day 3: The Power of Unity
Reading: Acts 2:42-47

Devotional:
The early church provides a powerful example of unity in action. Their devotion to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer created a community that was both attractive and transformative. Consider your own spiritual practices. How devoted are you to learning God’s Word, spending time in fellowship, participating in communion, and praying? These practices aren’t just personal disciplines; they’re communal activities that bind us together. Today, challenge yourself to engage more deeply in one of these areas. How might your increased devotion impact the unity of your church family?

Day 4: Radical Generosity
Reading: Acts 4:32-35

Devotional:
The generosity of the early believers was radical and counter-cultural. They saw their possessions not as personal property, but as resources to be shared for the common good. This level of generosity stems from a deep trust in God’s provision and a genuine love for others. Reflect on your own attitude towards possessions and money. Are there areas where God is calling you to be more generous? Remember, generosity isn’t just about finances – it can also involve your time, skills, and emotional support. How can you practice “radical generosity” today in a way that fosters unity and meets the needs of others?

Day 5: Praying for Unity
Reading: John 17:20-23

Devotional:
Jesus’ prayer for unity among His followers is profound and challenging. He desires a unity that reflects the oneness He shares with the Father – a unity so powerful that it convinces the world of God’s love. As you read Jesus’ prayer, let it shape your own prayers for unity in the church. Where do you see division or discord in your faith community? Pray specifically for those situations. Consider also how you can be an answer to this prayer. What practical steps can you take today to promote unity, understanding, and love among fellow believers? Remember, our unity is a powerful testimony to the world of God’s transforming love.
