Day 1: Blessed are the Hungry
Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Devotional: Jesus’ Beatitudes turn our expectations upside down. As we read these familiar words, let’s pause to consider how radical they truly are. The world tells us that blessing comes with success, comfort, and abundance. Yet Jesus pronounces blessing on the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and those who hunger for righteousness. Today, reflect on your own spiritual hunger. Do you long for God’s righteousness in your life and in the world around you? Remember, it’s often in our emptiness that we’re most ready to be filled by God. Pray for a renewed hunger for His presence and purpose in your life.
Day 2: Living Water for the Thirsty Soul
Reading: John 4:1-26
Devotional: The story of the Samaritan woman reminds us that Jesus offers living water to those society often overlooks. He crossed cultural and social boundaries to offer hope and transformation to someone desperate for a new life. Today, consider the areas in your life where you feel dry or unfulfilled. Bring these to Jesus, asking Him to fill you with His living water. Also, reflect on who in your community might be thirsty for hope and acceptance. How can you extend Christ’s love to those who feel marginalized or rejected?
Day 3: The Upside-Down Kingdom
Reading: Luke 6:20-26
Devotional: Luke’s version of the Beatitudes further emphasizes the radical nature of God’s kingdom. Jesus pronounces blessings on the poor and warnings to the rich. This isn’t about glorifying poverty, but about recognizing our deep need for God. When we’re satisfied with our own resources, we often fail to reach out for God’s provision. Today, examine your life. Where have you become self-sufficient, relying on your own strength rather than God’s? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you need to surrender control and trust more fully in God’s care and guidance.
Day 4: Righteousness that Satisfies
Reading: Isaiah 55:1-9
Devotional: God invites all who are thirsty to come to the waters, even those without money. This beautiful passage reminds us that true satisfaction comes not from worldly pursuits, but from seeking God and His righteousness. The prophet calls us to forsake our own ways and return to the Lord, whose thoughts and ways are higher than ours. Today, consider what you’re pursuing to find fulfillment. Are you investing your resources – time, energy, money – in things that truly satisfy? Ask God to align your desires with His, that you might hunger and thirst for what truly matters in His kingdom.
Day 5: Filled with God’s Fullness
Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21
Devotional: Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians beautifully captures the idea of being filled with all the fullness of God. This is the ultimate satisfaction of our spiritual hunger and thirst – to be so completely filled with God’s love that it surpasses our understanding and empowers us to live for His glory. As we conclude this reading plan, spend time meditating on the vastness of God’s love for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen your inner being, that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith. Pray for a deeper experience of God’s love and power in your life, that you might be a channel of His blessing to others who are hungry and thirsty for righteousness.
