Orbit 2 – Week 6 – Big Threat, Big Armour, Big Fall

Orbit 2 week 6 – Part 1 – Big threat, big armour, big fall –

Read 1 Samuel 17:1-11

Here we have the introduction to this famous event. The big threat comes from Goliath. Armour that weighed 57kg – how heavy are you? The end of his spear weighed 7kg – can you put one bottle of milk on the end of a broom handle and see how long you can hold it for… that is less than 2kg – his was 7kg!

Notice how Goliath was the Philistine champion – everyone accepted him, everyone on ‘their’ side loved him… who is your champion? Who do you look up to? Hopefully there are people in your family – perhaps others too – but what about Jesus? Is he your top champion?

Prayer: Thank you for all those people who inspire me and build me up. And most of all, thank you Jesus for being my champion.

Creative: Can you make a pendant highlighting those who are your champion!

Orbit 2 week 6 – Part 2 – Big threat, big armour, big fall –

Read 1 Samuel 17:26-40

David had asked a question “who is this man who wants to fight against the living God?” – quite a good question. I’m not sure anyone sensible would want to fight against the living God.

Note how Saul gives David his armour. Not as big and heavy as Goliath’s but still big and David was not used to it. So he took it off…

Wouldn’t it be good to be used to putting on the armour God wants us to put on…

  • Belt of Truth: Encourages honesty and integrity.
  • Breastplate of Righteousness: Represents doing what is right and living a righteous life.
  • Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: Symbolizes being ready to share the message of peace and good news.
  • Shield of Faith: Helps to protect against doubt and fear.
  • Helmet of Salvation: Reminds us of the salvation we have through Jesus.
  • Sword of the Spirit: Represents the Word of God, which is the Bible

Prayer:  Thank you that want us to put on armour that fits really well.

Creative: Make a reminder to put on the armour of God each day

Orbit 2 week 6 – Part 3 – Big threat, big armour, big fall –

Read 1 Samuel 17:41-54

“God does not need swords and spears” says David

Prayer:  Spend some time watching some news and pray for nations not to use weapons that cause far more death and destruction than swords and spears.

Creative: Be creative in how you pray for nations being attacked…
