Part 1 – Judges – we move into a section of the Bible that is right near the beginning. After Abraham and Joseph and Moses and Joshua the people enter the promised land. Things didn’t always go well for the people…
Read Judges 2:18-20
When did things go well for the people? When did they go bad, and keep getting worse?
How did God treat the people? What did the people do when a judge died?
Prayer: Lord help me to follow only you.
Creative: Get two bits of paper or card and stick them together… keep it as a reminder you are going to stick with God
Part 2 – Judges – Tale of a big King – we move onto one of the most fun(!) events in the history of God’s people. But first do you treat other people differently due to the way they look or act? For big King Eglon this was a big mistake…
Read Judges 3: 12-28 a long passage, but a great story!
Everyone assumed Ehud was right handed so would have a dagger on his left side – but he wasn’t! Perhaps we do need to cater for each other’s differences.
Ehud said he had a message for King Eglon and was it King Eglon’s pride that made him want to be the only one to hear it? Are you sometimes like that?
We then get the fun bits about a fat king, escaping down the loo (some translations suggest that!) and the King’s guards wondering how long you can leave someone in the loo before disturbing them!
And then because he has killed the king – the people follow him… what is it about Jesus that makes you want to follow him?
Prayer: Thank you that you are the best person to follow
Creative: Make a poster for your loo! Be creative in encouraging people to pray while they poo or to not be too long etc… have fun!
Part 3 – Judges – tale of the worst of the worst! – the film Top Gun was for pilots who were the best of the best. We have had a number of sport stars who are The GOAT (the greatest of all time). Well, today we look at someone who considered himself to be the weakest of the weak.
Read Judges 6: 12-16
Gideon is hiding from the enemy, he is scared, he thinks of himself as weak and unimportant… what are the angel’s first words to him?
Gideon asks a good question – if you are helping us – why are these bad things happening?
Note who answers Gideon in verse 14. God does hear us when we cry out to him.
Prayer: Spend time crying out to God – asking him to show his power among your friends, your school, this world… and your life!
Creative: “I am with you” Can you make a reminder to remind you of this important reminder?
