Orbit 31.1 – Less is more – The religious leaders have been giving Jesus a hard time and they looked down on those less important than themselves.
Remember a widow had no husband and was not able to work.
Read Luke 21:1-4
- What was brilliant about what the widow did?
- How did Jesus know she had given everything?
- Who are you more like? Wanting to impress or giving all?
- How could you use your money to serve God? Even if it is little?
Prayer – Thank God that God sees your heart and ask Him to help you to be generous.
Creative – Make a chart of how you spend your money…
Orbit 31.2 – Less important – Some big questions “what will happen before the end of the world?” but Jesus suggests there is something else more important!
Read Luke 21:5-28 – a long one – but it gives you an insight to all the amazing and terrible things that will happen before Jesus returns…
- What’s Jesus predicting in verse 6
- Jesus says scary things, but what should our response be – verse 9?
- What’s the good news for Christians who stand strong – verse 15?
- Some of this persecution happened to the first followers of Jesus and much more happens to those who follow Jesus today in many places of the world.
Prayer – Thank God that when all this happens it is a sign we will be set free!
Creative – Go to Open Doors Youth (opendoorsuk.org) and get inspired by those persecuted for their faith.
Orbit 31.3 – Less planning A difficult passage as it makes us think what Jesus was talking about? Was it the destruction of Jerusalem – that happened in 70AD? Or is it the end times – and that hasn’t happened! But this generation, or does it mean this race – will not perish before it happens!
Read Luke 21:29-38
- But what is it important for Christians to do to make sure they do to be ready?
- Do you always remember that Jesus will return?
Prayer – Thank God for his promise to return. Ask God to help you be ready!
Creative – Make a membership card! You are on the welcoming Jesus committee! (You are not on the planning for Jesus’ return committee – leave that for God to do!)
