Orbit Week 30 – Opposition Grows

Orbit 30.1 – Time for another parable – a simple story with a big meaning! But it is violent!

Read Luke 20:9-16

  • The vineyard is a picture of God’s people. The owner is God. The servants are prophets. The renters are the Jewish leaders. The son is Jesus
  • How had the Jews treated God’s messengers in the past?
  • How were they treating Jesus and what would they do to him?
  • What would happen to them in the future

Read Luke 20:17-19

  • This time the stone is Jesus
  • But if the stone is not put in correct place, it can cause people to stumble or be crushed!!!! Why would that happen?

Prayer – Thank Jesus that he came to the world knowing he would be killed – pray that you will never consider rejecting him!

Creative – Can you make something and then crush it? As a reminder or what can happen…

Orbit 30.2 – The Jewish leaders are out to get Jesus – one of these questions will surely trap him!

Read Luke 20:20-26

  • What were the spies trying to do?
  • What two things does Jesus’ brilliant answer teach us? (v25)

Read Luke 20:27-40

  • What bit of Jesus’ answer impresses you most?
  • Jesus says God is the God of the living – wow!

Prayer – Thank God for live now, life in the future and life evermore!

Creative Create an eternity calendar! How could you show this? Time to be creative…!

Orbit 30.3 – Are you beginning to understand that Jesus was not just a nice guy who helped people. This week’s readings show us how he told the people tough truth!

Read Luke 20:41-47

  • From the first verses – Jesus highlights that yes the messiah will be son of David but more than that also David’s Lord – ie God!
  • How did Jesus describe the attitude of the Teachers?
  • How did he describe their actions?
  • Why would they be punished most of all?

Prayer – Thank God for all people who teach you from God’s word. Pray for them to have the right attitude and that they will teach it correctly.

Creative – Make a card for one of your faith teachers (parent / Junior Church leader etc). Thanking them (and warning them of the importance of their work!)
