Orbit Week 25 – Being Rich

Orbit 25.1 – The younger son had got it wrong – wasting all the money he had taken from his dad – whose life was ruined! But now he comes to his senses!

Read Luke 15:11-32

  • Working for his Father is better than a pigsty! But how did his Father make it even better?
  • Running in that culture was an act of shame and humiliation. What does it say about the Father’s love for his son?
  • Extra Reading: 2 Corinthians 8 verse 9 – what did Jesus do to welcome people into heaven?

Prayer – Whilst the son enjoyed a party with fine presents and food – the older son remained outside. Which son are you? Thanking God for welcoming you? Or needing to ask God to welcome you?

Creative – Who can run and jump and dance for longest – whilst shouting praise to God?

Orbit 25.2 – After a very well known parable of Jesus, we get to a strange one – all about how we use money!

Read Luke 16:1-9

  • The manager had influence – what did he use it to do?
  • What does Jesus tell people to do with their worldly wealth? V9 Why?
    • Imagine a scene – you give money to help a missionary. When you are in heaven a random person comes up and thanks you for the money you gave which helped someone tell them about Jesus!

Read Luke 16:10-15

  • Note especially verse 13 – what is Jesus saying here? If you love money….?

Prayer – Thank God for your money and ask him to show you how you can best use it.

Creative – Make a giving chart – so you can highlight how and where you or your family give money.

Orbit 25.3 – A parable about a rich man – but told in a way that is designed to shock you!

Read Luke 16:19-31

  • What happens to the rich man (v22-23)
  • How is hell described? (v24, 26)
  • What does the rich man want to happen (27-28)
  • Abraham tells it as it is – if they won’t listen to Moses – what else would they not listen to?

Prayer – Thank God that you have heard the message of ‘the one who rose from death!’ – give yourself to God again, and pray for opportunities to speak to your friends and family who don’t know God.

Creative – Have fun thinking about the best things in this life and how much better they could be in heaven.
