Going Deep with God: Discovering the Riches of His Blessings

In the midst of life’s ups and downs, it’s easy to feel like our faith is running dry. We may find ourselves waiting for the perfect conditions to dig deep into our relationship with God, hoping for a spiritual downpour to soften the soil of our hearts. But the truth is, we don’t have the luxury of waiting. God invites us to go deep with Him, no matter our circumstances.

A superficial faith simply won’t do. It won’t change our lives or the lives of those around us. It won’t bring about the growth and transformation we long for in our churches and communities. The cry of many Christians today, especially young people, is a plea for depth. They’re saying, “Please, can we go deep? If we can’t, I don’t want a faith at all.”

So, what does it mean to be deeply blessed by God? The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, reveals the incredible spiritual blessings that are ours in Christ. These blessings are substantial, extravagant, and lavish. In fact, there are 15 specific blessings mentioned in the first chapter of Ephesians alone. We are chosen, holy, blameless, loved, adopted, accepted, free, forgiven, and so much more. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are mightily blessed, regardless of your circumstances.

It’s important to recognize that these blessings are spiritual in nature. While we may be tempted to focus on material blessings, Paul reminds us that our true wealth lies in our relationship with Christ. Jesus Himself was not materially rich, and many in the early church were poor. Yet, they understood that their spiritual blessings far outweighed any earthly possessions.

The greatest enemy of our hunger for God is not the obvious sins, but the subtle distractions of the world. It’s the endless nibbling at the table of triviality that dulls our appetite for heaven. We must be cautious not to let the simple pleasures of earth replace our love for God.

To experience the fullness of God’s blessings, we must cultivate a deep, relational connection with Jesus. Just as a tree with no roots easily falls over, our faith will be shallow and unstable if we don’t regularly spend time in His presence. One helpful image is to picture yourself sitting on a couch with Jesus, simply being with Him, without the need for words. It’s in this intimate connection that we find strength, nourishment, and blessing.

Jesus Himself modeled this relational depth. Though He was often surrounded by crowds and popularity, He consistently withdrew to be alone with His Heavenly Father. He invites us to come and eat what is good, to drink deeply from the well of spiritual blessing.

Not only are these blessings relational, but they are also prophetic. They give us a foretaste of the greater reality that awaits us in eternity. The Holy Spirit serves as God’s seal of ownership on us, guaranteeing our future inheritance. Though we may face challenges and darkness in this life, we have the assurance that one day, all will be light and love in His presence.

So, how should we respond to these incredible blessings? First, we must bless God with our worship and service, then we must share them with others. If God has been generous to us, let us be generous to those around us, both believers and non-believers. Second, we are called to steward and bless the world God has entrusted to us. As Christians, we have a responsibility to care for the planet and all of creation.

Digging deep in our faith may feel like hard work, especially when the ground is dry. But when we ask for the rain of the Holy Spirit to soften our hearts, God will bless us abundantly. And through us, He will bring blessing to others. So let us choose to go deep with Him, believing that we are truly and deeply blessed. As we do, may we experience the riches of His love and grace, and may we be a conduit of that blessing to the world around us.
