Orbit Week 22 – The News – Part 1 – Bad news

Orbit 22.1 – It’s time for some news and we start with the Headlines… the collapsed tower, the murdering leader! Of course everyone who died must have done really bad things to deserve it!

Read Luke 13:1-9

  • What is Jesus’ response to that idea?
  • In fact hearing about people’s deaths remind us of what? (v3, 5)
  • Then we get the story of fig tree? Why one more year?
  • What happens to people who won’t turn back to God?

Prayer – We pray for all those losing their lives today – and thank God that for those who trust in Him, death is not the end.

Creative – Watch some news – as you do, pause it and pray

Orbit Week 22 – The News – Part 2 – Good news

Orbit 22.2 – We continue with the news and now we get to the good news part…

Read Luke 13:10-21

  • Why is this good news?
  • Why did some feel this is not good news?
  • What was Jesus’ response?
  • Jesus brings life by setting people free – the religious people thought life came by following rules. How often do we think following rules bring us life?

Prayer – Pray for God’s Kingdom to keep growing – wherever you are (school, college, work, home  there is the equivalent of a mustard seed – what could God build?

Creative – Find good news stories and thank God for them

Orbit Week 22 – The News – Part 3 – Party

Orbit 22.3 – Final bit of news – just coming in – is of a big party but only some will get in!

Read Luke 13:22-30

  • Where is Jesus going?
  • There’s a party – but what will happen to the many? V24-25
  • How can someone assume to be the homeowner’s friend but be told they are not?
  • How can you make sure you are his friend?  It seems to involve the less popular way, involves being ‘last’ – definitely involves asking forgiveness for sin and repenting!

Prayer – Tell God you love him and offer yourself to Him… and pray for all those you know who think they are ‘ok’ but don’t really know Jesus

Creative – Have a party – for no obvious reason – invite others!
