7 Days of Prayer – Day 5

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Exaltation is not something we discuss very often. It means to elevate, lift up to the highest place, raise above all others.

In these verses, Christ’s exaltation comes after his humiliation in the previous verses. He humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this Christ was exalted – raised up to the highest place by God the Father. From death, He was RAISED to life and EXALTED to the highest place.

Philippians 2: 9-11

For what purpose? So that each of us could bow before Him, and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord and spend our eternal heavenly lives praising his name to the glory of God. That is the purpose of our lives, and all of creation – to glorify God.

There is a song which says “He is exalted, The King is exalted on high… He is exalted, forever exalted and I will praise His name”. I notice here the present and future tense. He is exalted – right now – still there! And always will be. We will praise His name – now and forever more. Let’s continue to praise his name today for He is exalted.
