Orbit 16.1 – Peter has declared Jesus to be the messiah – now God himself confirms it for three of Jesus’ disciples
Read Luke 9 verses 28-36
- What happened to Jesus?
- Is it surprising Moses and Elijah were present?
- Was it surprising that Peter didn’t know what to say?
- What’s the big news from God?
Prayer – Thank God that he still speaks to us – often through the Bible but in other ways too.
Creative – Make a notepad and divide into 4 sections – first one “Bible Passage”, next one “What it teaches about Jesus”, then “what I have learned” and finally “what I’m going to do about it” – find a passage and try it!
Orbit 16.2 – So often after the high comes a low… same thing for Jesus and friends – from wow to woah!
Read Luke 9 verses 37-45
- What was the problem?
- Why did Jesus criticise the disciples?
- What was the bigger news from Jesus?
- Why did they not understand?
Prayer – Ask God to help you understand the significance of Easter – much more than eggs. Praise God for Jesus’ love that took Him to the cross.
Creative – Draw a big ear as an encouragement to keep listening. (Or do a ‘brass rubbing style of ear rubbing’ to compare different ears!
Orbit 16.3 – Ever look down on other Christians? From other churches? What might Jesus say to you?
Read Luke 9 verses 46-50
- How have the disciples gone wrong again?
- What is true greatness, according to Jesus?
- John makes a statement to Jesus – what was his misunderstanding?
- Is there anything more important than having trust in Jesus’ death. So what if we disagree on less important matters?
Prayer – Thank God for your brothers and sisters in different churches and different places!
Creative – Go back to your notepad and use the 4 sections to be challenged by God from today’s passage…
