7 Days of Prayer – Day 6

A New Beginning

An advert I saw recently for a second-hand mobile phone said, “Not just refurbished but reborn”.

The daily bible study notes I use, sometimes include an urging to be Born Again Again.  It’s so good to know that however much of a mess we have made of things, we can still turn to the Lord Jesus to confess our sins and start again with a clean sheet.

Read John 3 v3 to 8

At the start of this New Year reflect on the past 12 months. Are there things that you did that you regret or things that you failed to do? Hurts that you are still carrying that you need to lay down?

Pause and pray

It’s great to be able to start again like this. But who of us, given the chance, would like to go back to being a baby again and start to live our lives from scratch. It would be good perhaps to be able to avoid getting into certain situations, but just think of all the nappy changes, the homework, the frustration of having to do as you are told all the time! It’s good to know that we can be forgiven when we repeat our mistakes, but how much better if we also learn from them and grow in experience.

Thank God that he doesn’t put us back to square one but uses our mistakes and hurts to build us into the people he wants us to be.

Pause and pray

Read Galatians 5v22-23

Are we wiser, more mature, more able to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit than we did at the start of last year?

We can’t do this on our own, but if we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, then those fruits will grow. Yes, we will still make mistakes from time to time, but we will be further on in our journey, growing to be more like our Lord Jesus and giving more pleasure to our Heavenly Father.

Pause and pray
