Luke now starts telling us of all sorts of things Jesus has power over. And the action keeps coming…
Read Luke 4 verses 38-44
- From the first two verses how good is it that Jesus cared for Peter’s mother-in-law. He ordered the fever to go away… could we do that?
- Verses 40-44 highlight what aspects of Jesus’ character?
- What does he have power over?
- And what was the reason he was sent?
Prayer – Thank Jesus once more for who he is and how he has power over everything. Pray that your faith would be similar to Jesus’ and you would speak powerfully in prayer over bad stuff!
Creative – Make a Jesus decoration for your tree! Perhaps one just with the word ‘power’ – would be a good conversation starter when people ask about it…!
Orbit 8.2
Fishermen are tough, hardworking, simple and smelly – ideal people for Jesus to hang out with?
Read Luke 5 verses 1-11
- Jesus said his mission was to go into other towns to tell of the good news and here he is. Why did Jesus get into the boat to teach?
- Think of all the different emotions Simon had as he met Jesus that day
- When you get close to God you can recognise more of your sinfulness – do you need to get closer? How could you do that?
- How can you fish more for Jesus?
Prayer – Lord, I want to be close to you – I know I am a sinner – please clean me – send me!
Creative – Make a fish with different people’s names on – pray that Jesus will help you to ‘fish’ for them!
Orbit 8.3
Have you heard about people with skin disease? Perhaps google ‘leprosy today’? In Jesus’ day, suffering from leprosy made you an outcast – you couldn’t be near people – not even your family – it was totally miserable
Read Luke 5 verses 12-16
- What did the man say Jesus could do?
- When this man had been to the priest and he had been officially clean – what difference would it make to the man?
- Jesus often got time on his own – yes to pray – but why else?
- Are these orbits helping you to regularly set aside time to pray?
Prayer -Thank Jesus that he can heal broken bodies and broken relationships.
Creative – Create a reminder to remind you to spend time with Jesus.
