Orbit Week 2 – Pregnant Pause

Orbit 2.1

It’s time for part two of “Gabriel’s surprise visits”. The scene is a house in the town of Nazareth – get ready for another jaw drop and hit the floor in shock.

Read Luke 1 verses 26-33

  • Can you make a list of all the promises that Gabriel made to Mary about her and about Jesus?
  • Which bit would have shocked Mary the most

Prayer -Can you give thanks for Jesus who is still reigning!.

Creative – could you make a delicious tasty treat (biscuits, cookies or cakes etc) and make a surprise visit to someone – who would be most surprised?

Orbit 2.2

Read Luke 1 verses 34-38

  • Why did Gabriel tell Mary about Elizabeth?
  • What wonderful truth did Mary hear in verse 37?
  • What was Mary’s response?

We’re not told how Mary would become pregnant. All we need to know is that with God anything is possible.

Prayer. What do you find hard to believe that God can do?  Do you truly believe nothing is impossible for God? Talk to God about these things.

Creative – Can you make a door hanger or similar that says “I am the Lord’s servant” or “Nothing is impossible with God” or a phrase on both sides….?

Orbit 2.3

Can you remember being really excited about something?

Read Luke 1 verses 39-45

  • There is lots of excitement in this passage – who is most excited?
  • Why does Elizabeth say her words in a loud voice?

Prayer – Elizabeth talks about Mary being blessed, the baby being blessed, her being blessed because Mary came to see her, Mary being blessed for believing that this will come true! Can you pray a blessing on people you know – can you pray the blessings in a loud voice? Ask God to bless them – name them by name!

Creative – There is an old song that says “count your blessings” – can you make a blessing jar? Get a jar and lots of something you can put in it e.g. marbles, dried peas etc. Every breakfast or bedtime or mealtime – each person can think of a way that they have been blessed – and put an object in the jar…
