Discussion Questions
Opening / Warm-Up
- Have you ever had to step into a situation where you felt completely out of your comfort zone or faced natural fear? How did you respond?
Stephen — Boldness Under Pressure (Acts 6:8–15; 7:51–60)
- David highlighted that the Holy Spirit didn’t change Stephen’s dangerous circumstances, but He completely changed how Stephen responded to them—giving him heavenly peace and Christlike grace to forgive his executioners.
- Question: When pressure or conflict comes in daily life, what usually shapes your response—fear of what people think, or the peace of the Spirit? How can we grow in reflecting that peace under pressure?
Saul — Living Encounter vs. Head Knowledge (Acts 9:1–9)
- Saul was exceptionally well-trained in scripture and theology, yet on the road to Damascus, he didn’t recognise the voice of Jesus and had to ask, “Who are you, Lord?”
- Question: What is the difference between knowing about God and having a living, personal encounter with Jesus? How do we guard against letting our faith become purely intellectual or routine?
Ananias — Courageous Obedience (Acts 9:10–19)
- Ananias was understandably afraid when God told him to go to Saul. Yet when he arrived, his very first words were “Brother Saul.”
- Question: David reminded us that “Obedience does not require the absence of fear.” Has there been a time when God asked you to take a step of trust while you still felt afraid? What helped you take that step?
Application & Reflection
- Re-read Revelation 3:20: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…”
- Where is the Holy Spirit knocking in your life right now? Is He inviting you to speak with Spirit-led boldness (like Stephen), surrender into a deeper encounter (like Saul), or go in brave obedience (like Ananias)?
