Day 1: The Seriousness of Sin
Reading: Genesis 3:1-24
Devotional: Sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, and its consequences have echoed through every generation. Yet even in that moment of failure, God’s grace appeared. He didn’t leave them to die immediately but provided covering through sacrifice. This pattern reveals something profound: sin is serious enough to require death, yet God is gracious enough to provide the solution. Today, reflect on how casually we sometimes treat sin. Do we recognize its weight? God’s response to the first sin wasn’t condemnation alone but provision. When you confess your failures today, remember that God has already made provision through Jesus. Let this truth move you from casual indifference to grateful worship.
Day 2: The Promise to Abraham
Reading: Genesis 15:1-21
Devotional: God made an astounding covenant with Abraham, promising descendants as numerous as the stars. But notice the extraordinary detail: God alone walked through the sacrificed animals, taking the covenant curse upon Himself. Abraham simply believed, and God counted it as righteousness. This wasn’t a contract between equals; it was a promise from the Almighty who would bear the consequences of our failure. Your relationship with God doesn’t rest on your perfect performance but on His faithful promise. Today, when you feel inadequate or worry you haven’t done enough, remember Abraham. He simply trusted God’s word. Faith isn’t about achieving perfection; it’s about believing the One who is perfect and keeps His promises.
Day 3: Love God with Everything
Reading: Deuteronomy 6:1-9; Mark 12:28-34
Devotional: Jesus summarized all God’s commands into two: love God completely and love others as yourself. This isn’t sentimental affection but committed devotion through thick and thin. Consider what it means to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Every thought, every action, every desire directed toward Him. This sounds impossible, and honestly, it is—in our own strength. But God doesn’t give commands without providing the power to fulfill them. The Holy Spirit enables what we cannot achieve alone. Today, examine one area of your life: your thoughts, your work, your relationships. How can you more fully love God in that space? Start small, but start intentionally, knowing His Spirit empowers you.
Day 4: The Perfect Sacrifice
Reading: Hebrews 9:11-28; 1 Corinthians 15:20-23
Devotional: The blood of bulls and goats could never truly remove sin; they only covered it temporarily, pointing forward to the ultimate sacrifice. Jesus, the spotless three-year-old lamb at His peak, willingly laid down His life. He walked through the covenant ground, saying, “May it be done to Me.” The Creator took the punishment meant for the created. No one forced this; Jesus chose it. His resurrection proved the sacrifice was accepted and death was defeated. When you take communion, you’re remembering this incredible exchange: His death for your life, His blood confirming God’s covenant promise. Today, let gratitude fill your heart. Jesus didn’t just die; He rose again, breaking sin’s curse forever. Live in that resurrection power.
Day 5: Living in Holiness
Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-25
Devotional: “Be holy as I am holy” isn’t a burden but an invitation to become like Jesus. Because He forgave you, live forgiven. Because He sacrificed for you, live sacrificially. Because He loved unconditionally, love others the same way. Holiness isn’t about rule-keeping; it’s about resemblance—looking more like Jesus each day. This means talking to people as He did, showing generosity as He did, forgiving as He forgave. When you fail, confess and receive forgiveness again. If God has forgiven you through Christ’s death, who are you to withhold forgiveness from yourself? Today, identify one way you can be more like Jesus: perhaps in patience, generosity, or truthfulness. Take one step toward holiness, empowered by the Spirit who lives within you.
