Day 1: God Does It All
Reading: Exodus 14:13-14
Devotional: Moses’ words to the terrified Israelites ring through the ages: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” What bondage are you facing today? Perhaps it’s addiction, fear, pride, or the exhausting belief that your salvation depends on your own goodness. The liberating truth is this: we cannot save ourselves. God does it all. Our striving, our religious performance, our desperate attempts to be good enough—none of it earns our freedom. Like the Israelites trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea, we must come to the end of ourselves. Only when we stop trying to fix everything and trust completely in God’s power can we experience true freedom. Today, confess what enslaves you and trust that God alone can deliver you.
Reflection Question: What are you trying to fix in your own strength that you need to surrender to God?
Day 2: Nothing in My Hand I Bring
Reading: Ephesians 2:8-9
Devotional: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” These words dismantle our pride and rebuild our hope. There is no DIY salvation, no self-help program that leads to heaven, no amount of church attendance or charity that earns God’s favor. We come to the cross empty-handed, bringing nothing but our need. This isn’t discouraging—it’s liberating. When we stop performing for God’s approval and simply receive His gift, we discover rest. The old hymn captures it perfectly: “Nothing in my hand I bring, only to the cross I cling.” Today, examine your heart honestly. Are you still trying to earn what has already been freely given? Release your grip on self-sufficiency and embrace the gift of grace.
Reflection Question: In what ways are you still trying to earn God’s love rather than simply receiving it?
Day 3: The God of Miracles
Reading: Exodus 14:21-22
Devotional: When Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, God drove back the waters with a powerful east wind. The impossible became possible. The Israelites walked through on dry ground with walls of water on both sides. Do you believe in this miracle-making God today? Or have you, perhaps without realizing it, downgraded Him to a manageable deity who fits neatly into rational explanations? A non-miracle-making God isn’t worth following. The God of Scripture disrupts natural order, steps into human experience, and does remarkable things. Miracles aren’t just ancient history—they’re glimpses of ultimate reality breaking into our fallen world. They’re previews of the new heaven and new earth where the supernatural will be normal. Whatever Red Sea stands before you today—impossible circumstances, hopeless situations, insurmountable obstacles—remember that God specializes in the impossible. Trust Him to part the waters.
Reflection Question: Where do you need to trust God for the impossible in your life right now?
Day 4: Wait and See
Reading: Psalm 46:10
Devotional: “Be still, and know that I am God.” These words challenge everything within us that wants to act, fix, and control. Moses told the panicking Israelites to do nothing but wait and watch what God would do. Waiting isn’t passive resignation—it’s active trust. It’s the hardest work of faith. In our instant-gratification culture, waiting feels like failure. We want solutions now, answers immediately, deliverance today. But throughout Scripture, waiting is a key theme. God works according to His appointed time, not our preferred schedule. Sometimes the period of waiting is when our faith grows deepest, when we learn that God is trustworthy even when we cannot see the path forward. If you’re in a season of waiting right now, don’t despair. Don’t rush ahead in your own strength. Be still. Pray. Watch. God will show up at exactly the right moment.
Reflection Question: What situation requires you to wait on God’s timing rather than forcing your own solution?
Day 5: Freedom in Christ
Reading: Luke 4:18-19
Devotional: Jesus declared His mission: to proclaim freedom for prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, and release for the oppressed. This wasn’t just His earthly ministry—it remains His work today. Whatever chains bind you, Jesus came to break them. He is your exodus, your Red Sea crossing, your way out of bondage into freedom. Like Javier, who wandered into a Billy Graham crusade and found himself unable to resist the pull toward freedom, God is pursuing you. He’s putting up signs, creating opportunities, drawing you toward liberation. But freedom requires a response. The Israelites had to trust God’s protection through the blood on their doorposts. They had to trust His deliverance by walking through the parted sea. What is God asking you to trust Him with today? Take His hand. Step forward. Let Him lead you into the promised land of freedom. Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Reflection Question: What specific step of trust is God calling you to take toward greater freedom in Him?
