Day 1: Embracing Spiritual Poverty
Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Devotional: Jesus begins His most famous sermon with a paradox: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This beatitude challenges our worldly understanding of success and self-sufficiency. To be “poor in spirit” means recognizing our complete dependence on God. It’s about approaching Him with empty hands, acknowledging that we have nothing to offer but our need for His grace. Reflect on areas in your life where you’ve been relying on your own strength. How can you surrender these to God today? Remember, it’s in our weakness that His strength is perfected (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Day 2: The Power of Humility
Reading: Philippians 2:1-11
Devotional: Paul exhorts us to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, who humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross. This passage beautifully illustrates the connection between humility and exaltation in God’s kingdom. Jesus, though divine, chose the path of servanthood and obedience. As we seek to follow His example, consider how you can practice humility in your daily interactions. Are there opportunities to serve others without seeking recognition? Remember, God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).
Day 3: Finding Strength in Weakness Reading:
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Devotional: Paul’s thorn in the flesh teaches us a profound lesson about God’s grace and our weaknesses. Often, we pray for God to remove our struggles, but sometimes His answer is to provide sufficient grace to endure them. Our weaknesses become opportunities for God’s power to be displayed in our lives. Reflect on a current challenge you’re facing. How might God be using this situation to demonstrate His strength? Ask Him for the grace to see your weakness as a pathway to experiencing His power more fully.
Day 4: The Heart of True Worship
Reading: Isaiah 57:15-21
Devotional: God declares that He dwells “with the contrite and lowly in spirit.” This passage reveals that true worship isn’t about outward displays or rituals, but about the condition of our hearts. God is drawn to those who approach Him with humility and repentance. Take some time to examine your heart. Are there areas of pride or self-sufficiency that are hindering your worship? Ask God to cultivate a spirit of contrition and lowliness within you, knowing that He promises to revive the spirit of the humble.
Day 5: Boasting in Christ Alone
Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Devotional: Paul reminds the Corinthians that God often chooses the weak and foolish things of this world to shame the strong and wise. This principle challenges our tendency to boast in our own accomplishments or status. As believers, our only boast should be in Christ and what He has done for us. Reflect on your life’s achievements and blessings. How can you reframe these to give glory to God rather than taking credit for yourself? Practice the art of “boasting in the Lord” by sharing with someone today how God has worked in your life despite your weaknesses.
