Day 1: The Power of God’s Word
Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Devotional: Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount begins with the Beatitudes, a series of blessings that seem counterintuitive to worldly wisdom. As we read these words, remember that they were spoken by Jesus to His disciples – those who were committed to following Him closely. Today, reflect on how God’s Word has the power to transform our lives when we truly receive it. How might your perspective shift if you embraced these blessings as Jesus presents them? Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart to receive God’s Word in a fresh way, allowing it to challenge and change you from the inside out.
Day 2: Blessed are the Unlikely
Reading: Luke 6:20-26, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Devotional: Jesus’ teachings often surprised His listeners, turning conventional wisdom on its head. He declared blessings on those society deemed unworthy: the poor, the mourning, the persecuted. This radical message reminds us that God’s kingdom operates differently from the world’s systems. Consider areas in your life where you feel weak or unqualified. How might God be working through these very weaknesses? Embrace the truth that God chooses the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and find hope in His upside-down kingdom.
Day 3: Finding Strength in Weakness
Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; 1 Peter 5:6-7
Devotional: The world often celebrates strength, success, and self-sufficiency. Yet Jesus blesses the meek, those who mourn, and the persecuted. This paradox reminds us that God’s kingdom operates on different principles than the world. Reflect on times when you’ve experienced God’s presence most powerfully in moments of weakness or suffering. How has God used difficult circumstances to draw you closer to Him? Today, if you’re facing challenges, invite God into those struggles, trusting that His power is made perfect in weakness.
Day 4: The Heart of Discipleship
Reading: Matthew 16:24-26; Galatians 2:20
Devotional: Jesus wasn’t looking for casual followers but committed disciples. The Sermon on the Mount sets a high standard that can only be lived out through the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Today, examine your level of commitment to following Jesus. Are you a casual believer or a dedicated disciple? Ask God to deepen your relationship with Him and to fill you with His Spirit. Pray the simple yet powerful prayer: “Come, Holy Spirit.” Surrender your will to His, allowing Christ to live in and through you.
Day 5: God’s Presence in Suffering
Reading: Romans 8:18-39; 2 Corinthians 1:3-7
Devotional: Jesus pronounces blessings on those who mourn, are persecuted, and hunger for righteousness. This reminds us that God is especially close to the brokenhearted and suffering. If you’re going through a difficult time, take comfort in knowing that God is with you and that your pain is not meaningless. If you’re in a season of comfort, consider how you can be God’s hands and feet to those who are hurting. Pray for eyes to see the suffering around you and for a heart of compassion to respond with Christ’s love.
