Day 1: Putting Off the Old Self
Reading: Ephesians 4:17-24
Devotional: As we begin this journey of going deeper in our faith, we’re reminded that following Christ means a complete transformation. Paul urges us to “put off your old self” and be “renewed in the spirit of your minds.” Today, reflect on areas of your life where you might still be clinging to old patterns or worldly thinking. Ask God to help you identify these areas and to give you the strength to embrace your new identity in Christ. Remember, this isn’t about following rules, but about living as a new creation. How can you practically “put on the new self” in your daily life?
Day 2: Speaking Truth in Love
Reading: Ephesians 4:25-27, John 13:34-35
Devotional: Truth and love are inseparable in God’s kingdom. Paul emphasizes the importance of honest communication within the body of Christ, but Jesus reminds us that love should be our defining characteristic. As you go through your day, pay attention to your words. Are they both truthful and loving? Consider a situation where you need to speak truth to someone. How can you do so in a way that reflects Christ’s love? Pray for wisdom and grace in your interactions, asking the Holy Spirit to guide your words and attitudes.
Day 3: Working for the Greater Good
Reading: Ephesians 4:28, Colossians 3:23-24
Devotional: Our work, whether paid or unpaid, is an opportunity to honor God and serve others. Paul’s instruction to former thieves reminds us that our actions should benefit not just ourselves, but those in need. Today, consider your work or daily activities. How can you approach them with a renewed sense of purpose? Ask God to show you opportunities to use your skills and resources to bless others. Remember, when we work as unto the Lord, even the most mundane tasks become acts of worship.
Day 4: Taming the Tongue
Reading: Ephesians 4:29-32, James 3:3-12
Devotional: Our words have incredible power to build up or tear down. Paul urges us to use our speech for encouragement, while James vividly illustrates the difficulty of controlling the tongue. Today, be intentional about your words. Before speaking, pause and ask: Will this edify the listener? Is it kind and necessary? Pray for the Holy Spirit’s help in guarding your speech. Also, consider how you can use your words to actively encourage someone today. Remember, our speech reflects our heart, so let your words be a sweet aroma to God and others.
Day 5: Walking in Love
Reading: Ephesians 5:1-2, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Devotional: As we conclude this week, we’re called to the highest standard: imitating God Himself by walking in love. This love isn’t a feeling, but a sacrificial way of life modeled by Christ. Reflect on the characteristics of love described in 1 Corinthians 13. Which aspects do you find most challenging? Ask God to deepen your capacity to love as He loves. Consider a practical way you can “walk in love” today, perhaps by showing patience in a difficult situation or extending forgiveness to someone who has hurt you. Remember, as we imitate God’s love, we become a “fragrant offering” to Him and a powerful witness to the world.
