Christians in India are asking their global church family to join them in praying into the nationwide elections that begin tomorrow (19 April) and run until 1 June. The results will be known on 4 June.
Although freedom of religion or belief is a constitutional right in India, Christians in many areas are increasingly under threat by Hindu extremists. This often involves violent attacks. It’s why India is 11th on the latest World Watch List.
For our brothers and sisters in India, religious freedom is at stake in the coming weeks, as Hindu nationalists seek to press home their agenda. Indian Christians fear that the elections could lead to wider, even nationwide, implementation of the anti-conversion laws that often used to target believers.
Our guide to praying for India and its Christians during the elections will be updated as we get information from believers in the country. Keep an eye on our website for the latest.
Please pray
- For peaceful, violence-free campaigning and elections, and that there will be unity among believers
- The people will be able to make informed voting decisions without being influenced by false or misleading propaganda
- For the protection of believers in India, and ask the Holy Spirit to pour His peace into their hearts during this time.
