Orbit 15.1 – Have we heard this story before? Possibly, it is in every gospel. What do you see here, that Luke highlights?
Read Luke 9 verses 10-17
- How do you react when people ‘bother’ you, or interrupt you? How did Jesus react?
- How ready are you to talk about good news?
- What would you have thought as one of Jesus’ disciples here? In groups? Food out of nothing? 12 baskets of leftovers? 12 tribes? 12 disciples?
Prayer – Thank Jesus that he can meet your physical and spiritual needs
Creative – Make a welcome sign… to hang on door or in phone case or somewhere noticeable. As you make the sign talk about how you can be more welcoming?
Orbit 15.2 – Over the past chapters Jesus has given many hints about who he is – but have his friends understood?
Read Luke 9 verses 18-22
- What had Peter realised? What do you understand about the phrase ‘God’s Messiah?’
- What does Jesus say will happen to him?
- Can you understand the problem for many people – how could God’s chosen one – be put to death?
Prayer – Re-read verse 22 – Thank Jesus that he went through all those things – because of his love for undeserving sinners like us.
Creative – can you make a sign that declares what Jesus is to you…?
Orbit 15.3 – If someone asked you “what does living as a Christian involve?” How would you answer?
Read Luke 9 verses 23-27
- What does Jesus demand? What does it mean to forget self?
- Why would anyone carry a cross? Only one reason!
- How can you be proud rather than ashamed of Jesus? How could you ‘big him up?”
Prayer – Say sorry to Jesus for times you have kept quiet about Jesus when you had a chance to speak up.
Creative – Can you make a sign in the shape of a cross? Perhaps write your name on it – as a reminder of carrying your cross every day.
