New Year, New Growth 2024
A new year is here. As we look back and remember the challenges and victories of the past year, we see the faithfulness of God in our lives. Although every problem and challenge has not been resolved, we know by the promises in His Word and through experience that He answers prayer and leads, guides, and protects His children.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
The Lord is making a new creation in the believer. Whether or not that is immediately apparent, God is turning each one of His children into a more righteous individual. He will change circumstances as well. If things are bad right now, it will get better. If God can part the Red Sea, resurrect the dead, and put rivers in the desert, He can and will work all things for His children’s good and His glory.
Let God Guide Your Future
One thing the New Year does is make us think about our future. Most of the time, celebrating the New Year at least makes us think about our plans for the next 365 days. However, we cannot forget whose hand needs to be in our future plans. We may not always understand the plans God has for us, but these New Year’s scripture verses remind us:
Proverbs 3:6 – In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)
Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. (NIV)
Prayer
Dear Father God, thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for all that you’ve allowed into our lives this past year, the good along with the hard things, which have reminded us how much we need you and rely on your presence filling us every single day.
We pray for your Spirit to lead us each step of this New Year. We ask that you will guide our decisions and turn our hearts to deeply desire you above all else. We ask that you will open doors needing to be opened and close the ones needing to be shut tight. We ask that you would help us release our grip on the things to which you’ve said “no,” “not yet,” or “wait.” We ask for help to pursue you first, above every dream and desire you’ve put within our hearts.
We ask for your wisdom, for your strength and power to be constantly present within us. We pray you would make us strong and courageous for the road ahead. Give us ability beyond what we feel able, let your gifts flow freely through us, so that you would be honoured by our lives, and others would be drawn to you.
We pray that you’d keep us far from the snares and traps of temptations. That you would whisper in our ear when we need to run, and whisper in our heart when we need to stand our ground.
Amen
